Over Easy Solar Reaches Major Milestone – Over One Megawatt Delivered

Oslo, May 2025 – Norwegian solar technology company Over Easy Solar has passed a major milestone: delivering a total of over 1 megawatt, 1382 kilowatts to be exact, of its innovative vertical solar solution to customers across Europe. That equals 27,600 solar panels installed on more than 15,000 square meters of flat rooftop space.

Founded in 2021, the company set out to solve a growing challenge: how to install solar panels on flat roofs, green roofs, or buildings with low load-bearing capacity. The answer became the VPV Unit, a vertical bifacial panel system that officially launched in autumn 2023 and is now installed on around 40 buildings in 13 countries.

With a founding team primarily from technical backgrounds, we're especially proud to have reached commercial scale in just 18 months – with growing sales and partnerships far beyond Norway

Breaking Records and Borders with Vertical Solar Technology

Following a first full-scale delivery for the City of Oslo in 2023, Over Easy Solar has achieved several high-profile milestones:

  • In 2024, its solution was installed at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, setting a world record for vertical solar on rooftops in collaboration with leading Norwegian Solar installer Solenergi FUSen

  • A new and even larger record-breaking project is now underway in Tromsø, in partnership with Norwegian energy company ENØK Total

  • The company has started a sales, marketing and distribution agreement with Sempergreen, a global leader in green roofing systems, to bring the solution to green rooftops across Europe

  • In 2025, the company has actively been signing new partnership agreements with solar installers to reach out in different markets. The company now has signed partner agreements with over 25 installer companies in Europe.

World record in vertical solar on rooftops in 2024: Ullevaal Stadium, the national football stadium of Norway
A huge milestone was the installation on Ullevaal Stadium in 2024 - a world record in vertical solar installations that will soon be broken by the next large project.

The company has patented and developed the VPV Unit solution for flat and green rooftops, a completely new approach to rooftop solar with prefabricated units rather than rooftop assembly of ballasted flat roof systems. It is a concept that put the needs of the solar installers and building owners first.

The path from concept to megawatt-scale delivery typically takes 5 to 10 years for new solar technologies. We're proud to have done it in just four!

Solar and Green Partnerships Driving Global Expansion

In May 2025, Over Easy Solar signed a strategic collaboration with Chinese solar cell manufacturer Huasun, known for high-efficiency cells particularly well-suited for vertical applications. Over Easy Solar currently operates with 9 employees across offices in Oslo and Valencia, and is focused on scaling in Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland, and the Benelux region, with first installations in North America too this year.

The partnership with Sempergreen for green roof solar installations really stands out. In preparation for new building legislation for Europe to be implemented from 2027, Sempergreen and Over Easy are together promoting the most sustainable use of urban rooftops: Solar panels for energy, and green roofing for climate adaptation, water retention, biodiversity and reduction of the urban heat island effect.

We see the VPV Unit from Over Easy Solar as the perfect match for green rooftops, and we're excited about our partnership to bring this technology to the market.

Kai van Gool, Business Development Manager, Sempergreen

The VPV Unit is designed for easy green rooftop integration, without the need for ballast or roof penetrations, and is gaining recognition across the clean tech space. Over Easy Solar has previously won the SolarPower Europe Startup Award and was ranked among the top 3 innovations at both Solar Solutions Amsterdam and Düsseldorf in 2024.

Partnerships is at the core of Over Easy Solar's model. Some recent and important partnerships include (from left) Sempergreen, Huasun, and ENØK Total.
