We’re proud to share a milestone Over Easy Solar installation in New York City — our very first project in the United States. Located at Willets Point, this biosolar project marks an exciting step forward for sustainable urban development in North America.
This isn’t a standard rooftop installation. Combining solar energy production with a thriving green roof required a solution that works in harmony with nature — and that’s exactly what our vertical bifacial system delivers. By allowing sunlight and rainwater to reach the vegetation below, the system supports healthy plant growth while generating clean energy.
What makes this project stand out even more is the lightweight, ballast-free design. Thanks to the vertical orientation, wind uplift is significantly reduced, eliminating the need for heavy ballast. Instead, the system is mechanically attached to the roof structure, ensuring both stability and efficient load distribution — a key advantage for urban buildings where weight is a critical factor.
A big thank you to Sempergreen Group — especially Dick Bernauer — for the strong partnership and shared vision for biosolar solutions. And many thanks to Related Companies, S9ARCHITECTURE, MPFP, Langan Engineering & Environmental Services, and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection for their collaboration and commitment to bringing this innovative project to life.
Projects like this show what’s possible when forward-thinking technology meets ambitious partners — proving that building owners no longer have to choose between solar energy and green roofs. 🌱⚡
